Zombies just wanna smell good

Yet another story that questions our planet and some of those who live on it. Then again, we're referring to "how can we make money and cash in" factor. The fact that this piece stood out and is being shared with blog readers indicates that it's an intriguing concept if somewhat puzzling, especially for none-zombie-types.

A U.S. perfume manufacturer for whatever reason - maybe there are zombies in the family tree or something - has created a perfume specifically geared for zombies. Really. The perfume or zombie essence known as Zombie for Him and Zombie for Her, manufactured by Demeter Fragrance Library in New York, enable the "dead to simply pass without offending."

This leaves one - moi - to  ponder a) there are libraries that are making zombie perfumes and b) pass what without offending what or who? I mean, this leads one to contemplate upon the issue of where do zombies go, anyway, when they die before turning into the un-dead-ish? More important, why am I wondering about these things? But I digress.

Zombie for Him is a combination of dried leaves, mushrooms, mildew, moss and earth. An obviously very earthy combination of rot resulting in a delightfully blechy essence of decay. The Zombie for Her, on the other hand, is a slightly lighter version with a touch of wine dregs to give it an aromatic decay smell. Demeter perfume site, www.demeterfragrance.com, targets their ideal purchaser as:

"So you're a Zombie. Or you know a Zombie. And you might become a Zombie. Any way you slice and dice it, you’ll need different kinds of fragrance. Fragrances that can make the dead simply pass by without offending. Because only Demeter Fragrance Library could make a Zombie fragrance eminently wearable."

Not sure what type of budget zombies have at their disposal but the 1oz. cologne spray sells for $20 while the 4oz. cologne spray is $49.50. It can be obtained on-line but there are no outlets mentioned where it can be purchased...yet. Thinking further, can you imagine a zombie entering a perfume outlet to buy the perfume.

Zombie
I'd like a bottle of perfume

CLERK
What type of perfume. We have so many brands...all the big designer names...

Zombie
Gimme Zombie for Him!

CLERK
You mean a fine fragrance for men?

Zombie
I want Zombie for him

CLERK
I see. You're referring to yourself in the third party. So which brand does he want?

Zombie
Perfume for Him!

CLERK
Don't take this the wrong way, sir, but...like...ahem...you do have a odor and your body parts appear to be decaying. Perhaps you should go to the nearest hospital, instead of buying perfume.

Zombie
Maybe I should bite off your arm!

You get the picture. By the way, there's a "100% Money Back Guarantee. No Questions Asked" policy. Wise decision on the part of the perfumerie, given their purchasers.

Lamb eyeball, anyone? How about fresh beaver tails?

Let's say...one is tired of the usual fast food options or the conventional menu offered at neighborhood eateries (not that there's anything wrong with local restaurants - I'm a fan). Perhaps there is an inner urge that can't be fulfilled at a buffet, a need for something different. Something on the exotic and perhaps a little eclectic side? How about some Nepali goat brain? Maybe live drunken shrimp, perhaps? Or lamb eyeball (no mention if it's served open or closed - hopefully closed), or perhaps boiled fertilized duck egg, a side of beaver tail. These food options are "average" fare for a group of adventurous diners who have named themselves, Gastronauts. Presumably, the name refers to gastronomical exotic fare and not the end result after eating unconventional food choices. But I digress. Already.

The group, created by two friends in 2006, were seeking out meals that offered a culinary experience not ordinarily found at your regular restaurants. Initially, the first meeting of the club, which has its home base in New York City, attracted a mere half dozen people. I can understand why. Over time, however, the membership has grown to 1000 eaters and plans are to expand to other U.S. cities.

The club, according to one Curtiss Calleo, an art director and graphic designer, who founded the club along with magazine editor, Ben Pauker, is open to all and has bankers, artists, designers among others, as members. There is no registration fee and members/participants pay for their own meals held monthly in restaurants. No mention of the name of host restaurants, though. The invitations are sent via e-mail to 70-80 people, who usually respond quickly to the invite.

In as far as the food served, at a recent gathering in New York for example, the invitees ate balut, a Philippine snack of boiled fertilized duck egg. Just wondering here what fertilized duck egg is preferred say...over unfertilized duck egg. Just a thought. Anybody know? But I digress. Again.

Other delicacies served at previous get together include cooked lamb eye ball. Pass. As an after thought, the vision of tail-less beavers is somehow personally worrisome.

Be that as it may, there may be people reading this who are interested in sampling food and would like more information on how and where to become a member:

Psssssst - I'm following an escaped snake

First and foremost let me state for the record that I am not - repeat - not a snake lover. In fact, I'm not even a snake liker and would go out of my way to avoid any type of confrontation. Be that as it may, I'm following a snake and a deadly species to boot, without any fear or trepidation.

Last Saturday, an Egyptian cobra escaped from her/his (no indication of its sex supplied) home in the reptile house of the Bronx Zoo. Of course this made headlines everywhere because an escaped cobra is a dangerous cobra. As expected the reptile house is closed until further notice and there is a watch out for any signs of the escapee. Personally? I wouldn't try to find him or her.

As a Twitter-er - at least that's what I call myself - I enjoy reading tweet updates supplied by people. You know - the usual i.e. what they're doing at any given moment, what restaurant they're eating at...normal stuff. However, yesterday and much to my surprise, there were tweet updates supplied by none other than the Bronx Zoo Cobra! Seems the snake is literally and figuratively out on the town, visiting all the New York sites. I mean, how often would a cobra get to visit New York? I would safely guess, never.

For example, yesterday the cobra tweeted and shared: "On top of the Empire State Building! All the people look like little mice down there. Delicious little mice." Most likely he/she meant 'delicious little mice' not in the visually cute sense but as... You get where I'm going.

These tweets are very entertaining and witty so I decided to follow Mr. or Ms Bronx Zoo Cobra. An hour ago, cobra warned, "Getting my morning coffee at the Mudtruck. Don't even talk to me until I've had my morning coffee. Seriously, don't. I'm venomous." I believe her/him. In fact I even tweeted back: "What are the chances you'll be heading to Canada? Just want to be prepared." Really I do. A person can't be too prepared where escaped cobras are concerned.

Death row prisoner opts for unusual last meal

Once again, the only phrases that spring to mind upon reading this story is "gimme a break" followed by "I dunno.."

It's not uncommon for prisoners on death row to ask that their last meal be favorite foods like steak, fried chicken, cream pie...before they check out of this world. However, fish food definitely falls into the unusual category, especially when the request specifies that the prisoner be turned into fish food and fed to your run-of-the-mill gold fish.

This is exactly what convicted murder, Gene Hathorn requested if his final appeal fails. This begs the question as to why would he want to become fish food. Right?

Actually, it's all the name of art and he has given permission to allow artist, Marco Evaristti, to use his body as an 'art installation" that will be part of a larger project focusing on capitol punishment.

Fish food...capitol punishment...? Is there a connection I missed?

The artist who lives in Denmark, will deep freeze Hathorn's body following which it will be turned into fish food. Once this is achieved visitors to his exhibition will be able to feed - well - the former Hathorn to a shoal of goldfish.

It is hoped that work will begin within a year if Hathorn is refused an appeal for the third time and he hopes he can stage the show in North America, somewhere like the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

O-kaaaaay... For sure the museum will jump at the opportunity to display feeding goldfish. It's so...artsy (cough-cough...).
