Canadians hold annual GI Joe Convention - Barbie is indifferent - Ken goes surfing

Although she was rumored be there, Barbie, the vinyl fashionista, did not attend the yearly Canadian GI Joe Convention. Word had it that (GI) Joe was more than a little upset.

The 10th annual convention held on Saturday, August 11th in Toronto, Canada, was established by GI Joe fan, Michael Heddle, whose store was the impetus for the creation of the event. The toy soldier (he  considers himself Barbie's personal toy-boy), who was created by Hasbro in 1964, has been a constant presence in the fashionista's life, much to Barbie's chagrin.

"Like...he doesn't leave my side for a second," Barbie commented when contacted as to the reason for her no-show. "He even stands on guard outside the bathroom when I pee or do - you know - the other thing! I mean, a girl has to have some privacy. I need some alone time!"

The one-day event featured conferences about the toys, which featured a bounty of old and newer Joes.

Seems that Toronto isn't the only location to hold a convention. In the U.S., he will hold center-stage at Coil Con, the mid-west's largest G.I. Joe convention, which has been around for 3 years. The convention will take place in Kokomo, Indiana on September 8th, in case anyone reading this is interested in attending.

"I'm everywhere where there's an enemy that needs taken care of," Joe stated confidently, his eyes darting around the room checking out the faces for signs of an attack.

When asked his feelings about Barbie's not being there, Joe's eyes filled with tears but quickly regained his composure and assumed his knee position.

"Barbie knows I can always be counted on to protect her from the enemy and believe me - she's got a lot of 'em, especially that Blaine dude from Austra-alia-land or wherever the heck he hails from. She needs special protection from him."

When contacted to ascertain the reason for his absence at the convention, Ken, Barbie's ex or current man in her life, seemed vague about the convention, generally.

"Do 'ya like my new surf board?" Ken commented, carressing it from top to bottom. "Is that the ocean I hear? Surf's up! Gotta go!"

Willliam and Kate to join Barbie and the vinyl bunch

Haven't received any reaction yet from well-known vinyl personality and fashionista, Barbie, regarding the news that she may soon have two rivals for attention.

Seems that toy maker Mattel, has releaed a limited edition of  "William and Catherine Royal Wedding Giftset" a.k.a. Prince William and Kate Middleton, to coincide with the royal couple's first wedding anniversary. In the way of a memory jog, I'm still waiting for my invitation to the royal nuptials that obviously got lost in the royal mail. But I digress.

According to reports, the two royal vinylistas/dolls are wearing "outfits inspired by "the" regal wedding attire." Does this mean that a wardrobe is in the works a la Barbie et al, where the couple will wear different outfits to suit the occasion? You know...lunch with the Queen...etc. Taking it further, perhaps there will be a royal home replete with royal servants. The mind boggles. At least mine does. But I digress - again.

"One year after Barbie and Ken announced their reconciliation, Barbie celebrates the love of another iconic couple" with the introduction of the new set, Mattel said.

This definitely will not go over well with Barbie who considers herself the queen of dolls. When asked about the new Mattel additions, Barbie commented, "Kate and William who?" Contacted for his take, Ken, Barbie's signifigant-other, said "I have a new surfboard, It's yellow. I like surfing."

That Ken! Such a beach bum!

The dolls, which will sell for $100, will be part of the Barbie Collector edition and will be available in April. Here is a photo of the new additions: http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/kate-made-barbie-ken-dolls-time-anniversary-article-1.1024233?localLinksEnabled=false

So would you buy a set?

Will Barbie take Ken back? Time to vote, peeplz!

At one time Barbie, the famous vinyl fashionista was dating Ken Carson, a vinyl surfer dude with a (very) limited wardrobe. They were considered the perfect couple, she with the immaculately coiffed long blond hair, perfectly chiselled features, who forever walked and will always walk on tip-toes. Ken was the perfect escort in spite of his limited wardrobe dressed in - well - surfing trunks. Together they led the ideal life - at least it seemed perfect to outsiders.

On Valentine's Day in 2004 after 43 years of being together and much to the surprise of everyone, they split up. Rumors were rife (say those words fast after a few drinks) that there were other dolls in Barbie's life but nothing was substantiated. However, shortly after they both went their own way, the plastic blond bomb shell started dating Australian surfer dude, Blaine. Initially heart broken, Ken re-started his life and with the help of an agent, he received critical acclaim for his role in "Toy Story 3", in addition to an appearance in Fashion Week in New York. Slowly and meticulously, he acquired a new wardrobe and a new image.

Although he enjoyed his new-found fame and according to sources close to Ken, he missed Barbie, the love of his life.

"If she called me right now - I would be back by her side - no questions asked," Ken frequently told mutual friends.

"Like - the guy was really becoming a drag!" said a friend who wanted to remain anonymous. "It was always 'Barbie this' and 'Barbie that.'

Obviously, many Barbie and Ken aficionados want to see the popular couple together again and to this end, a poll has been established, "Should Barbie Take Ken Back?" for the couple's fans to cast their vote on Facebook or at http://www.barbieandken.com/

When asked her opinion regarding the possible reunion, Barbie responded, "whatever..."

Barbie and company win big bucks and we're not talking about monopoly money

After a legal fight that left Barbie, the plastic fashionista and her rivals, the Bratz not on speaking terms, Barbie's "parent", Mattel, was awarded $100 million dollars in damages from MGA Entertainment, the creator of the popular Bratz, in a copyright spat.

The award followings a ruling in July that MGA and its CEO, Isaac Larian, stole conceptual drawings of the Bratz, who are now more popular than Barbie and friends. The federal jury involved in the case also ruled that Bratz designer, Carter Bryant had the idea while still working for Mattel, also finding that MGA aided in breach of contract and that Larian played a role in the deal.

Such goings-on but read the whole story here:

Barbie reacts in a press conference

Barbie, obviously disturbed by all the legal wranglings, was concerned how this would affect her image.

"I'm just happy it's all over," Barbie commented in a hastily called press conference after the ruling. "Now we can get back to what's really important in life: this year's fashions."

Her signifigant-other, Ken, also seemed relieved although it was difficult to tell at times.

"What was the question?" Ken asked and finally after staring off into space repeating the phrase, "surfing rules!"

"You know the Bratz are nothing but interlopers who are trying to horn in on my territory!" Barbie jumped in while distributing photos of herself, Ken and G.I. Joe. "Now you look at us! Aren't we more beautiful than...than...them?" she asked members of the press while signing each photo.

"You tell them babe!" added G.I. Joe who was listening and watching from the back of the room . "Any of youze reporters give my Barbie bad press will have to deal with me!"

The room was almost cleared when a hand grenade propelled from somewhere in the room landed near the reporters. However, the press conference continued upon the realization that it was a toy.

"How about the fact that Yasmin, Jade, Cloe and Sasha have knocked you out of first place," she was asked, "and they have their own TV series and a feature film."

"All a bunch of lies!" Barbie retorted.

"Also...aren't they much younger than you?" another reporter asked. "Aren't you - like - almost fifty?"

"Age has nothing to do with it. Look at me - do I look like I've aged? Not one wrinkle anywhere. Anyway, that's a lie too."

Suddenly, the press conference ended as fast as it had begun. Barbie was over-heard to have asked Ken as they exited, "do I look old?" to which Ken replied, "surf's up!"
